Managing ProE relations in PDM system other than Windchill

Hello all,
I hate to even ask the question...but I must do diligence. Is anyone
using eMatrix (ePDM) to manage native ProE files and their
relationships?

I fully support the use of PDMLink as not only the data management for
ProE files (as Intralink did) but also the best solution to manage the
changes to the ProE native files via ECR/ECN and WF. However, I find
myself in a interesting situation. We are currently using Intralink 3.3
as the data management tool for ProE. At the end of the design or
change cycle we produce a PDF output of all the drawing files for a
particular design. We then send those document into eMatrix (ePDM) as
the "master" document for the rest of the enterprise. When a change is
needed, an ECR is created against the PDF in ePDM and the process is
managed there. Everyone knows in order to make a change to the PDF...we
have to go to the native (source) ProE files and regenerate the PDF as
another non-associative output. This is an enormous gap and a potential
catastrophe.

I have always assumed eMatrix (ePDM) was not capable of handling native
ProE files as PDMLink does. Is this a fair assumption? I would
appreciate any explanation as to how the use of ProE with ePDM is
possible and examples of how it is being done. At the end of the day, I
think it is more value added to have the change process control the
source data than attempting to manage copies across multiple systems.

Thank you in advance.
