Migrating AutoCAD DWG files to Intralink 9.1

Migrating AutoCAD DWG files to Intralink 9.1

We have run a number of test migrations between Intralink 3.4 M062 and Intralink 9.1 M020 and amongst the list of objects that don't get migrated are AutoCAD *.dwg files. DXF and IGES files come across OK, so I'm thinking its a setting somewhere.

One possible clue is that one of the Intralink 3.x builds some time ago added a "DWG" type name to the system, where there hadn't been one before. I had created an "AutoCAD Drawing" type name previously and to keep everything in order and just retain one type, I deleted the "DWG" type name. All files that were marked "DXF" (which was added at the same time as "DWG" if I recall correctly) come across fine in the migration so I'm wondering if the Windchill Data Migrator only recognizes "DWG" as the proper type name for AutoCAD files and is ignoring my other name.

Does anyone know if this is the case, and if so is there a way I can add a new object type to the Data Migrator so that it brings these files over?

Eventually we'd like to investigate the AutoCAD WGM with PDMLink, but that's not in the cards at this point.

Thanks for any feedback

Andrew -

Unfortunately, the PTC's migrator does not support the AutoCAD file types.
Since DXF is a generic type, that comes over, unfortunately I've experienced
issues with AutoCAD using them in the new Windchill system. In order to use
other CAD types (UG, Solidworks, AutoCAD etc) you need to use Icubed's
LEGEND loaders to make sure all functionality is preserved.

Andrew, I'm not sure about the 9.1 migrator however the 8.0 migrator
did handle AutoCAD drawings. I migrated about 30k of them from
Intralink 3.4 to PDMLink 8.0 with out a problem.

I had to add the line below to the pitdmapping.properties file.

AutoCadDrawing=0/@ACAD/@CADDRAWING/@NULL/@NULL

Check with tech support.

The issue is Intralink 8/9/10 etc... only supports Pro/E as EPMDocs.
You can migrate Autocad in as EPMDocs, but you will not be able to
work on them.

What I did for past customers is migrate them in as a Document object.
Unless you get in to advanced autocad functionality like X-REFS then
there is no object to object dependencies and a document is a
sufficient way to store them.

If you needed to be fancier you could create a soft type of document
called ACAD or AUTOCAD and put them there.

If you migrate ACAD document from Pro/Intralink as EPMDocument in Windchill, you need the ACAD WGM, Pro/E cannot edit them.

Correct, and the 3rd party wgms are not supported for intralink.

The only usable option is to migrate them as wtdocs
