New Document Wizard differences in behavior

Hi gurus

Can anyone explain this difference in behavior between our instance of Windchill and PTC's pds.ptc.com:

When creating a new WTDocument in our instance, the New Document wizard starts as an applet, which takes a long time and the Java icon appears on the windows process bar on the local client.

When creating a new WTDocument on pds.ptc.com, the New Document wizard appears instantly and can be used with nearly no delay and no java is launched on the local client.

I would like to have the same experience on our instance of Windchill. Any suggestions on how this can be done? Which behavior do you have on your Windchill systems?

TIA,

Bjarne Frandsen

Bjarne,
This is a preference called File Upload Mechanism (under Attachments).

The options are "Use basic browser functionality to select and upload files"
and "Use Java applet functionality to select and upload files".

The only advantage to the java applet is that you can drag and drop.

Relevant preferences (settable by each client):

This also may affect:

Thank you for the replies, now I know the pros and cons for this preference.

It seems that our users are quite happy for the drag and drop possibility, especially when creating multible documents.

But they also dislike the initial wait for the applet and we have the problem that the browse button do not work, when the client java version goes beyond 1.6.0 update 7, which is an ever returning support issue (which might be why the userslike drag and drop and definately why I asked the question).

Regards,

Bjarne
