Number of Intralink Items

Number of Intralink Items

Hi Everyone,

I'm being asked by my manager to provide info regarding the number of items in Intralink. Is there an easy way to find that out? My guess is that the easiest way would be thru an Oracle query of some sort but I'm not sure. I haven't seen any other questions on this subject. Most questions have to do with table space or cluster size. We need to find out because they're considering using SAP instead of IL and the SAP won't tell us how much it will cost until they know how much data is involved. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You could do pro/locate name=* (it will take a while) then look at the
row count along the bottom of the locate window.

Rich,

Be very careful of SAP (PLM) the product is good for MRP but not any good
for managing Pro/E data. They have a 3rd party company that is very
expensive that needs to be added to even have a chance, however all of the
accounts that have this are not very happy with it.

Thanks,

Thanks everyone for the quick response! I've gotten a number of suggestions to do a "Locate" of some sort. This works as a quick check of the items in IL but my boss has already found more items that the "Locate" command has returned. We've got a purge scheme in place that keeps 3 versions of PIV's at each release level so we've got a lot of more data than first appears. I don't have access to the data server so I'm at the mercy of our IT group to set up and run a SQL script. My gut feeling is that the SQL script tool is going to be the most accurate. Thanks go to Patrick Williams for that PTC/VAR tool.

BTW, it's not my idea to go to SAP or Teamcenter. I was told flat out by a Siemens Teamcenter account manager that the best tool for managing Pro/E data is a PTC PLM product! And he sells Teamcenter!

Thanks again!

I wish you the best of luck...really...our corporate "drivers" say we are going to teamcenter also, somehow, magically they will make it work

I swore there was the ability from Proimgr, but I cannot find it now.

Do you work for Siemens and use ProE?

Remember that will not give you "virtual" objects, such as family table
instances. There are other issues but certainly a possibility for a
rough count.

you can filter out instances, then you will only count "normal" files, unless of course you have evil nested family tables.

Hi Rich,

I did something similar to that a long time ago...
I can't guarantee that it still works, but I used a script that parses
the object reports.
I did it with a script because I needed the data from several intralink
databases spread over the world...
maybe you can adapt it to your needs...
