Freakin firewall issue... turn it off on the server and everything connects fine. Not sure if that's the best solution but for now it's going to have to do.
An excellent suggestion that pointed me in the right direction was from Thomas Oberhem in Germany. Thomas wrote:
- Open a DOS shell and start the client from within (to set the env variables), exit the client.
- Check how TNS_ADMIN is defined (echo %TNS_ADMIN%); it should point to the client installdir where the tnsnames.txt is in.
- If that's ok, execute "TNSPING INTRALINK": it should show you the oracle server with the correct port and SID.
