Part classification problem (Prediction vs FMEA)

Dear Sirs,

We bought a copy of the software Windchill Quality Solutions 10.0 (Prediction MIL-HDBK-217, FMEA and FTA modules).

We have a problem regarding the items classification when we have a project that must be analyzed by means of all the three modules.

In order to get the Reliability Prediction of our system, we import the system Parts List and the Part Classification of the components must be set to General to compute their failure rate for the MIL-HDBK-217 model.

Then, we need to perform the system FMEA and we create our own components Failure Modes Library and we must specify the Failure Modes for all the components categories. In the Part Definition Pane, we must define the components Classifications and, since we have classified them as General in the Prediction module, we must use the same classification. Unfortunately, in the Failure Mode Library file, we can only specify the Failure Modes for the subcategory but not for the component type. for example, we can define the Failure Modes for the Subcategory Diode, but not for the Diode Type Switching or Zener. (On the contrary, we can define the Failure Modes for the resistors or capacitors type because are included as subcategory)

Since, for our applications is important to define the Failure Modes for the different types of diodes, how can we do this?

Other classifications in the Failure Modes Library File allow us to insert the Failure Modes for all the Diode Types, but the software does not apply these classifications because our components have been classified as General in the Prediction Module.

Anyone has suggestions?

Thank you in advance for your help!
