I often struggle when I have to input for new parts:
* Category (Capacitor, Inductor, Semiconductor, ...)
* Sub-category (Coil, Film, Plastic, Ferrite, ...)
* Type (Pulse,Low Power, Flyback, ...) and other parameters such as # of transistors ...
Even checking the datasheet, sometimes it is difficult to discern between, for example, the multiple subcategories of Capacitors and Resistors, Transformers, etc.
Do you know of any source of information or documentation where I can learn to better tell apart the different technologies?
Thanks
There are three places that I can tell you to look.
www.digikey.com
This website sells electronic parts. Search for a particular part number. If found, click on the part number. It will then tell you lots of specs about the componenet, and digikey includes a generic categorization for the parts.
http://www.talkingelectronics.com/CctSymbols/Circuit_Symbols.html
This website has the circuit symbols for a large list of electronic components. The customer could match the circuit symbol on teh datasheet to the appropriate symbol on this webpage.
This website gives the basics about electronic theory.
This doesn't really tell me how to choose amongst the multiple Telcordia sub-categories and types, but it is useful information. Thanks.
