Pro/I asks for user to log in twice...

Pro/I asks for user to log in twice...

Environment:

Pro/I 3.4, M050; Sun/UNIX Dataserver; Windows XP-Pro,SP2 Clients (Dell P6x0 & M90/M6300 laptops)

Wildfire 3, M140

Description of Problem:

This scenario doesn't happen all the time; but it is intermittent to virtually every user we have. The Pro/I & Pro/E interaction as described belowwill work fine for several days, then all of a sudden you get a single (or sometimes 2-3) launch(s) where the behavior is as described here.

User launches Pro/I from Desktop shortcut and logs into Pro/I (There is NO separate shortcut for Wildfire; ALL entry is via the Pro/I launch shortcut)

Workspace (menu pick) -> XYZ and opens selected W/S

Select a Pro/E file (part, assembly, etc makes no difference); Right-click Open. Same thing happens ifyou Select object in W/S, Object, Open sequence from the top menu.

Pro/E launches (splash screen, Pro/E window comes up, etc) then Pro/I launches AGAIN presenting the user with another Login box and Pro/I Main Menu window.

So far PTC has given me a bunch of irrelevant junk that misses the mark by a mile! Anyone have any ideas about what might be causing this?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Joanna,

Thanks for your reply...

Yes, PDM_LDB_PATH is set in the Pro/I launch batch file for all users to
the directory "D:\Pro". (And as an aside, one of the comments made by
PTC was to UNSET the PTC_NMSPORT=1239 setting in the Wildfire
"proe1.psf" file by simply removing the line from the file. I already do
this because we run PTC_NMSPORT on 8899 due to nearly constant conflicts
with various components of Microsoft Outlook & Communicator.)

As for the Pro/I variable and "start in" location: Yes - for all users
except for me!

The reason for the last point is that I support multiple versions of
Pro/I (3.3, M022 & 3.4, M050) and for multiple different Pro/I databases
in different locations. Thus I have to manage - obviously VERY
CAREFULLY - multiple PDM_LDB_PATH locations as well as several
TNSNAMES.ORA files.

For my typical user, however, there is none of this in play, yet they
experience the exact same behavior of the intermittent redundant logins
for Pro/I.

(BTW, the latest from PTC was to remove and reinstall BOTH Pro/E and
Pro/I to "see if that helps"! I am not very optimistic about the
outcome of that exercise, since I remove and reinstall clients all the
time with no overall change in behavior.)
