Promotion Requests and Workflows

Promotion Requests and Workflows

Three questions and a preliminary conclusion:

1/

When one or a few workflows for promotion requests are configured in the preferences (transitions/PROMOTE/$DEFAULT), is there a way to allow a user to perform a promotion without firing any of the workflows? A work-around could be to provide with a dummy workflow as a default, but I hope there is a more decent approach, since this doesn't solve my problem.

2/

If the OIR associates a lifecycle including a workflow to a promotion request, is there a way toexecute it together with the workflow from the preferences? When I tested it, the workflow from the lifecycle is launched, but hangs in status 'running', the execution stops. The workflow from the preferences is executed normally.

3/

Are workflow preferences for promotion requests restricted to the site-level? Or could they be defined on context-level? I tested it, and only the site-levelworked for me.

My preliminary conclusion is this. I want to fine tune the behavior of the promotion request according to the context. Since preferences aren't working on context level, and since preferences are not compatible with life cycle workflows, I have to abandon the preferences completely, and stick to life cyle initiated workflows.

Thanks in advance for any input, Hugo.

is there a way to allow a user to perform a promotion without firing any
of the workflows?
--- You could use "Set State" to just set the state directly to any state
you want independent of workflow or promotion request objects.

Don't use the Promotion at all. Grant the users 'Set State' rights. Then
your goal is met. However, there will then be no oversight, review or
approval in this process.
