Re : SMTP software?

In your workflow, send the emails to group(s) where you put only your user.
When you validate your workflow you will have just to put the other users in the group(s) without updating the workflow.

Hi Paul,
You can export ldap information, replace all email addresses with yours using regular expressions and import it back to ldap. May not be best solution, but may be one of the easiest solutions.

Hi,
I'm trying to set up a test environment for my PDMlink system. We are
currently using PDMlink in the same way we did Intralink 3.x. Now I want
to start to experiment with workflows and other features unique to
Windchill.

One part of this test environment will deal with the email notification
portion of the workflows. My test environment will be on a box connected
to the company network, butI don't want emails being forwarded to the real
email server from my test environment. I don't want to confuse my
userbase. So I figure I have a couple options to handle the email
notifications

1. I could leave the mailhost property set to my company's email server,
but I would change the email address for every user entry in Aphelion to
my personal company email address. That way regardless of what email
message gets spit out of Windchill, they will all go to me. or..

2. I could setup some sort of SMTP forwarding software and then make it
not forward anything. I would set the mailhost property in windchill to
send all email to my dummy email SMTP software "trap". Then in one
interface, I could see all the emails that get spit out by Windchill. They
would still be addressed to various real email addresses, just they
wouldn't actually be sent to our real email system. They would just sort
of accumulate in a one big file or folder. Kind of like a mail bag before
the mail actually gets delivered to people.

The real goal here is that I will need to test a workflow, or demonstrate
how it works, to management. And I want an easy way to show the emails
that get sent out to various real users without the real users getting the
mail.

I have seen that if you undefine the mailhost property in windchill the
emails don't get sent out at all. Does this mean that the email was never
generated or does it just mean that Windchill doesn't know where to
forward the generated emails? If they sit in a queue within Windchill,
maybe there is a way to visualize the emails in the queue. That would be
adequate for my purpose.

Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to offer.

That's a sweet feature. Unfortunately,
my IT department blocks internet email systems, including gmail.

Gmail has one nice feature which can be helpful in such
cases as workflow testing. Gmail treats -same as -.
So we can create multiple ids to the same mail box such as
-, -and -.

All emails will be delivered to the same email address -and still we can differentiate which mail is sent to which user based on
the to address.

Paul,
be carefull with just using your own e-mail, when this comes to a validation
stage. If the workflow is unable to resolve the recipient of the e-mail
it will be sent to the creator. If those e-mail addresses are the same,
you have no direct clue to whether the mail was sent to the Role as expected
or to the workflow creator due to a role resolution error.
I did that mistake a while a go. )o:
