[SUMMARY] - Removing old iteration in WC?

Thanks to all that replied.

It's amazing that such a simple task as deleting a single iteration is
just not possible. Even in 9.1.

Based on the replies I got, there are many more people struggling with
this.

The workarounds I got were:

* Use advanced search to find only version A.0 and remove it.
Does not work. You are only allowed to remove the highest
revision of an object.
And when it is the highest revision it will then still remove
the entire revision instead of just this iteration.
* Moving the file to a product which is not readable.
Doesn't work, you'll be moving the entire object to this
product. I only want to remove one iteration. Not the entire drawing
* Use the Purge Manager.
But this does not allow you to purge just a single object.
Workaround in the workaround is to move the file to a separate
folder and then purge only the folder.
And when the iteration is used in any other object you'll have
to purge them as well.
* Backup the drawing to a local folder, remove every version and
then check it back in as a new drawing.
A lot of work and you'll loose all history.
* Use unsupported external tools like ext.tools.ListAll (
).
Haven't tried it yet.

I understand we don't want everyone to be able to remove iterations of
objects.

But as an Administrator I do want to be able to cleanup the database.

Give me a multitude of warnings like, Are you sure you want to do this?
Do you really want to break all references to any baseline, promotion
request, assembly, etc? Do you realize that you'll compromise the as
stored condition of this and that assembly? Are you aware that this
iteration is in this and that workspace?

But at the end, just go on and delete the iteration and break all
references it has.

Intralink 3.4 worked much better. As an administrator I could remove any
iteration, even if it was used in an iteration of another object.

P.S. Why must this iteration of the drawing go?

Someone added an instance of one of our standard screws to this drawing.
So any assembly which has this instance assembled will download also
this drawing when we download with add All drawings. Even though there
are higher iterations of the drawing where the instance was removed.

We asked for this type of functionality and even submitted an
enhancement request back in February 2009.

"Need a way to delete specific iterations of a CAD Doc in commonspace
the way that Intralink 3.4 allowed us to."

According to the Enhancement Request Tracker the Resolution Description
is "Not Available". Whatever that means. Of course the other 16

enhancement request say not available as well. Guess I don't have any
good ideas.

Thanks PTC.
