Cannot import Catia V5 CATPart as quilt / surfaces

I am having issues with opening a CATPART file on CREO. When I open the file, I am getting some import errors and cannot see any of the geometry of the part. If I edit the definition of the data import I can then see the part surfaces but the import will fail to regenerate if I click OK. 

I cannot add the data as surfaces (greyed out on Import As tab), only as bodies so it may have something to do with how it is saved in Catia. I have tried correcting issues in IDD but cannot afford to spend as much time correcting issues with every import. Can Import settings be adjusted to allow the data to be imported as a quilt/surfaces?

maybe CATPART version is not compatible with CREO 9.0.8.0.
