Creo Cabling - Step File of Cable Exported but does not always show up when importing

Imported step file of a cable created through the cabling add-in doesn't show up. As in the model of the cable is in the model tree, but doesn't show up in the graphics window. When modifying the original cable by removing locations to simplify the routing and re-exporting to step and importing it, the step file shows up.

AP214 is being used. Cable surfaces is selected in export.

What breaks the import/export for cables? Can complex geometry or bends break it?

Do any of the surfaces overlap one another?  I've seen this happen before (not with cabling) where Creo can't determine the surface normals of overlapping surfaces, particularly if they overlap multiple times.

Yes, some of the cable surfaces over lap each other, but we have other cables that do the same with no issues. The cable we are trying to export is routed along a circular object like a tube.
