Delay between assembly windows

I am using Creo Parametric Release 7.0 and Datecode7.0.0.0

Creo is non responsive for 1-1.5 mins when switching windows between large assemblies. Recently software was updated from Creo 3 to Creo 7. I did not experience this issue in Creo 3.

Have you updated the driver for your graphics card? This could be part of the problem.  Has anything else changed with HW or OS  since migrating to Creo 7? Is your hardware and OS supported for Creo 7?

System requirements can be found here:

It appears my Intel(R) HD Graphics 530 does not make the approved list.

According to one post I saw on line the 530 is the bottom of the food chain and known to run slow.

That is an Intel CPU integrated graphics engine. I would expect poor performance (relative to supported GPU) with large assemblies in Creo using this for GPU. An updated driver should help but an ISV approved GPU will be superior.

How many components are in these "large" assemblies that you are working with?

There are 4000 components in the assembly. Fasteners are reused in many places.

So this is why I’m in IT, there are 2 cards, the other one is the NVIDIA Quadro M2000M.

My drivers were from 2017 so that is updated now.

Speed appears improved with this.

Still hanging up ~18 secs when switch windows back to the large assembly.

I also need to mention I was running a graphics config option in Creo 3 “X_Windows”

It appears Creo 7 doesn’t recognize this option. Are there new graphics config options in Creo 7

Is regeneration in Creo 7 drastically different, or are there regen options to help speed things up?

I exported my VA

Imported to a fresh work space

No sync

Assembly works in 1 sec when switching windows, success!!!!

****This is not an acceptable practice or solution since it would mean everything I’m working on is offline

Explanation for why I did this

When in Creo 3 I had only checked in some files and I assume rest were loading from my cache file.

So loading all this into a fresh workspace is how I could replicate how Windchill/PTC was viewing the files.

When we switched to Creo7 I had to check in all my files, and that seems to be what is slowing this down now.

This rules out any issue between Creo 3 and Creo 7

Is there more to investigate on PTC/windchill or Network?

So this is why I’m not in IT, there is a card installed in addition to the internal hardware, the other one is the NVIDIA Quadro M2000M.

Graphics is a hidden option used for troubleshooting. You shouldn't use it regularly. Only to see if any issue you may be having is a graphics related issue.

If you want to re-test, manually add graphics win32_gdi   This option will disable your nvidia graphic card.

win32_gdi did not improve time.

Make sure that Creo is using the Nvidia GPU.

If you have parts like fasteners that are re-used often, save them with all features set to read only. That will speed up regeneration.

Your environment settings such as display quality and shaded vs wireframe will affect rendering speed.

Use simplified reps on assemblies where possible.

I would never intentionally create external dependencies that would require having a huge assembly in session to modify something. This is the reason behind the top down design tools in Creo. In general, design assemblies should not follow the BOM structure but be built to support the workflow for the design team and minimize external references to assemblies.

many items are read only.

There are items with external links, but all the parts are in this assembly

Hi,
is a topic that interests me.
1 minute delay is really anomalous, maximum I waited about 10 sec.
In any case I suggest you give it a try.

From my experience reducing the number of columns loaded in the model tree of parameters and various info, IDs, etc ... (some columns will be heavier than others) you should get a reduction in the delay in switching between one window and another.
Doing so in my cases I get the reduction of half the time.

I would be curious if you try to set up a model tree with no accessory columns and notify me if you get any improvements.
Thank you.

I don't have the feature IDs showing in the tree or anything else. Usually I only use that in the part files to trouble shoot.
