Difficulty in selecting sketch entities in Creo

I'm working in Creo Parametric version 11.0.1.0.

When in sketch mode and selecting entities for adding dimensions, I hover over the entity until it highlights, but when I click the entity often does not get selected. I thought there might be a config parameter that affects the sensitivity of sketch entity selection, but I wasn't able to identify one.

Haha, yup. PTC said my computer was not on the approved list. WTF. Get this, they want me to DOWNGRADE my graphics card from a A4000 to an A2000 (Because A2000 is on the approved list)

LOL Hell No.

Hopefully someone figures out this issue.

I was just thinking about the fact it's difficult to show PTC the problem. You can show the clicks you are doing with the Power Toys Mouse utilities provided by Microsoft. There's a feature called Mouse highlighter.

You received lots of valuable replies - worthy steps! If all previous failed, then make certain all updates for computer firmware and software are 100%. Reboot. Windows font format has changed somewhat. PTC should lead you to a solution to be compatible, but they won't accept fault so dig hard. I had similar entity selecting issues in Solidworks at former company years ago. I'd select slightly off the entity (1/8" by eyes on screen) and it would capture it finally. Same with font typing, it was offset from where font should be.  Your previous replies should help there too. Also, slow response on typing: I had that issue w/Solidworks years ago at a former company. Company security software (Moby...?) was impeding on that by slowing us down to a crawl.  Took 2-3 minutes to write a 15-word sentence that I typed in 20 seconds. Also crashed a lot! I'm Creo-7 going to 9 this yr, then 11 in 2yrs.  Now, I did have slightly similar issues in Creo-4 and 7 when I'm not updated thru-out all other MS and security firm/soft wares. You also should use latest iteration of Creo-11.

Same issue, recently 'upgraded' from creo 8 and tried creo 11.0.4.0. Performance is notably worse.

Sketcher selection issues;

really difficult to select sketch lines and references when in sketch mode

takes several mouse clicks to finally select what you want

Rotating model and zooming in and out is choppy and lags

Scrolling up and down the model tree is choppy and laggy

Even if you go to file -> help -> system information, the dialogue box for that is jittery, choppy, lags, display issues etc

Also a separate sheet metal thickness issue where once you have input the desired thickness you can't change it without manually changing the value in parameters

Wanted to go to Creo 11 because of some of the new features and enhancements, (real number to string, sketcher autoscale when place first dim, filter parts, assemblies and drawing symbols added when opening, performance monitor, enhancements to mulitbody modelling etc) but will have to stay with Creo 8 for now as performance is much better

Hi,

please publish information about graphic card (including driver version).

I know your question is for JH_9975224, but I thought I'd post my graphics card information as well; it appears I didn't previously. To the best of my knowledge, it's on PTC's approved list, but you may know something I don't.

NVIDIA RTX 3500

Hi,

1.] You can test config.pro option named pick_aperture_radius

https://support.ptc.com/help/creo/creo_pma/r11.0/usascii/index.html#page/fundamentals/fundamentals/fundamentals_configuration_options.html

2.] Did you test selection behavior after setting config.pro option graphics win32_gdi  ?

3.] NVIDIA RTX 3500 Driver version 32.0.15.5612 ... it is probably version 556.12

I would try older version ... see below

Hi Martin,

Specs are as follows:

JH_9975224_0-1750865126276.png

I'm not sure if my graphics card is on PTC's approved list, but what's frustrating is that Creo's graphics and overall performance were perfectly fine up to version 10. I've tested Creo 11 and 12 on multiple computers where Creo 10 and earlier versions ran smoothly, but versions 11 and 12 feel noticeably choppy and laggy.

There are several issues: dialog boxes flicker when scrolling, selection issues, models lag or hang momentarily when opening, and selecting a component takes time before it's highlighted in the model tree. Overall, the program feels significantly slower and less responsive.
Creo 10 and earlier felt instantaneous

Graphics card
RTX 4080 Driver version - 32.0.15.7680
Intel (R) UHD Driver version -  31.0.101.5445

@JH_9975224

Graphics card drivers can "mess up" creo performance when windows updates happen, when creo is updated, hardware changes, or seemingly random at times.

You should experiment with different drivers.

Since it's a gaming card, it won't be on the approved hardware list so you won't get any help finding the correct driver.

Hi,

unfortunately, your answer does not include information about whether you have tried:

1.]

config.pro option ... graphics win32_gdi

2.]

older graphic card drivers

My other tips:

a.]

test Creo 11/12 without custom config.pro files

b.]

disable GeForce and use Intel UHD, only (info my Intel UHD 620 uses driver version 31.0.101.2125 release on 24-May-2023)

Anyone get this figured out yet? I made a ticket, but because my laptop was not on the PTC recommended list they cant really help.

BUT I finally found a computer that IS fully on PTC approved list...and I get the exact same issue in Creo 11. And before anyone asks....Yes I installed the PTC approved video card driver version on it as well.

I see it on 2d Drawings  and also on 3d models (when selecting surfaces to color)

Tried 11.0.5.0 with no change in behavior too.

No, nothing new. As you now have a certified computer, you should maybe open a ticket with that computer.
