Also thought of another one:
6) Make an effort to make subassemblies
If you have 3 sheetmetal parts that fit together, make them into a
subassembly.
Order a xyzpdq-1 subassembly that consists of xyzpdq-11, xyzpdq-13, and
xyzpdq-15 parts preassembled.
This means that they will always fit together because the sheetmetal
shop delivered them assembled already.
It takes some of the effort out of quality control and you can control
dimensions of the entire assembly if you want.
Once again, not easy to get your technicians to love you... this will
nudge you further down that path...
