Facetted copy of a boiled egg

Good afternoon.
I am faced with trying to model a component to pattern around a compound
curved surface.
Imagine the pointy end of a boiled egg. Its curvature is changing in
whichever direction you cut through it, I believe.
Now imagine that I want to produce a little egg cosy, to stop it going cold
whilst I eat my toast. However, I can only produce the egg cosy by knitting
together two different sizes of parallelepiped (I think that's the word), a
top row of parallepiped 1 and a lower row of parallepiped 2.
My problem is:
How do I model the parallelepipeds to ensure that there is an integer number
of them in each row?
I have tried a number of different approaches and come to a grinding halt
after a few steps in each.

I would attach a picture, but I would have to model it to do that...

Any ideas would be welcomed.

Cheers,
John
