Family Table problem - Ilink 3.3, WF2

You remember those, right?

I have a drawing that I can't open. It is of an assembly, which is itself a
family table with two members: as-welded and as-machined.
When I check out the drawing, it brings with it the assembly and the two
instances.
Problem is, the instances show up in workspace as members of one family
table (let's call it FT-A) and the generic is called something different
(let's call it FT-B).
When I try to open the drawing, it complains that one of the instances is
not in the workspace, although it is. It refers to it in terms of the FT-A
name, though, not in terms of what the assembly family table is now called.
I think the problem is that the drawing and assembly have at some time been
renamed (from FT-A) to their current name (FT-B), but somehow the instances
and Intralink don't realise.

How can I get the drawing, assembly and instances all to link up without the
non-existent FT-A being involved?

I hope at least some of this makes sense...

What has worked for me is to rename things back to what they were called
originally. This needs to be done outside of common space. Once you get it
straightened out, you can rename it properly in common space.

Showing up in the workspace does not mean it's really there. Check the workspace folder on the disk (,,,\.proi\workspace-name)

However, there are no answers, just more questions:

  • Can You open the instances from the assembly (without the drawing)?
  • What does the drawing really require? Did You try a reference report for it?
  • How did it get into the workspace in the first place? Upon checkout, it should have told You what it requires. Is it already in the commonspace? What dependencies/references shows it there?
  • If You renamed things incorrectly (which should not be possible inside IL), can You roll back the workspace?
  • Do Yo have maybe different versions of the family table in the workspace? What if You checkout the rest of the instances?
