Fundation + extensions WF2 vs WF4

WTF!!!!

T is for turbo.

What happened to my licenses!! I go to WF2 and I can use advanced assembly
with the foundation licenses. Same license server with WF4 will not allow
the use of fundation with advanced assembly or advanced surfacing
extensions.

I feel cheated. But PTC should feel cheated by its own game. I was about to
buy new licenses. Now I'm not. Not until my licenses work the same way they
used to work.

I think PTC found a loop hole in the license agreement. Basically, it is
illegal for them to change the license without our consent I would assume,
I've never read the fine print... they write way too much of it. So
instead, and correct me if I'm wrong, they changed the software to act
differently with that license?

I really need to feel corrected right now..

Did PTC change WF4 to prevent the use of the foundation license with the
advanced assembly extension?

That makes our WF2 upgrade to WF4 actually a downgrade. Half my licenses are
now worthless without 64bit.

For once I was happy but now the weekend is over and now I get this Sh....
No wonder in the meeting they really wanted us to seal the deal on the
licenses quick before the upgrade and really wanted us to get the more
expensive licenses. They told us in our face "companies who choose the
fundation license eventually want the more expensive license". Little did I
know they really meant, "you will eventually want the more expensive license
because you are upgrading to WF4".

PTC what a headache you are. Even for the people who champion your products.
Dissapointment is an understatement of how about I feel about PTC right
now.

I think this was discussed here and elsewhere a few years ago when WF4
was new. There was some kind of bug in older versions (WF2 I guess)
where folks got more than they were supposed to, namely AAX. So, the
license didn't change, the software now respects the license where it
did not before.

Advanced assembly (AAX) was never supposed to be part of the foundation
package. I believe you should have all the surfacing aside from ISDX.

Does your license file have the AAX extension in it?
Have you configured your install to enable the AAX license at startup.

Like Doug said, PTC discovered a bug in the FlexNet code and fixed it when WF4 was released. Prior to that point, you were able to use licenses that you should not have access to. Maybe PTC should bill you for using unlicensed modules? PTC is only enforcing their license agreements by only allowing access to licensed modules.

I am sorry but I have to gently and politely disagree with you Ben. If I go to the grocery store and they have the wrong price on and item, then I get that item for free. This has happened to me. PTC should upgrade those users to include the AAX extension or whatever it is they used. It was PTC's fault that they allowed it.

Or just like when Amazon puts up an incorrect price on an item and they take it down after an hour or so. Amazon allowed the people that bought it to keep it at that price. They didn't say "you know what? We put it at the wrong price so give it back".

You may say that the customer should have known about it and should not have used it. If it's an accessible feature in your license then you will have a very hard time separating out all the different features and knowing what you can use and what you can't.

You may also say that what I got for free or what was a mistake on Amazon was nowhere near the cost of that AAX extension. And you would be 100% correct. So does that mean that on a lower cost item it's ok but on a higher cost item it's not?

Did Amazon have the right to cancel the order? Yes. But they didn't. It was Amazon's fault.
Did PTC have the right to do what they did? Sure. That doesn't necessarily make it right in my book.

I agree with you, Steve, and this is also what I think that happens, one can keep using the extra licenses. As long as they don't upgrade, of course. Unless you discussed a special kind of maintenance contract.

Hugo.
