Issues with running thermal stress calculation while specifying previous design study

I have recently worked with support to determine why when I was running a structural design study based on thermal transient analysis (Mec/T load), I was getting a geometry changed error.   It turned out that the only way to get rid of this error was to unclick the "use previous study" button when specifying the Mec/T load.

This is extremely inconvenient as I now need to run the thermal calculation twice (or possibly more than twice if I wish to calculate stresses at more than one time step) in order to get both the thermal and stress results.  The other frustrating thing is that all over the help menus, it states that you can use and previous design study (there is a button for it) but it does not work.

Is there a way around this.
