i'm using Creo parametric 12.4.2.0 and it seems that with My Filter enabled for selection it doesn't switch automatically to Cabling Items when using Cabling module.
Does CS288487 help in understanding the behavior you are experiencing? If not, maybe you can share what items are included in your My Filter settings for more detail for this quesiton.
