Mech Design + 1 more Mech question

Well,

From all your suggestions & help I found that I had failed connections
in my top level assembly, not the sub-assembly I was assembling.
So, my sub assy was ok, but with the bad connection in the top assy it
made me think that (the sub-assy) was failing.

Thanks very much for your replies!!

New question: Can someone shed some light on setting up slot
connections? Maybe a tutorial or PDF? Or at this point, for any other
connections, gear, cam, ETC...

John

Original question:

Pro's,

I've started playing around in mech design again & have a question.

If I create a mechanism assembly, I can run the assembly through its
motions with no problems, but, if
I then assemble that assembly into another one, it doesn't seem to
recognize the connections & wants to suppress the connections
when I try to open that in mechanism design.

Could I be overlooking a config setting or are my methods wrong?

Responses below:

sounds like you're setting up conflicting connections when assembling
into the upper level. bear in mind your DOF's. you may have to setup
different types of connections if you are assembling the same joint into
another level assy. for instance, use a bearing joint instead of a pin,
etc.

be aware that mechanism will allow over-constraint and operate ok
depending on what and where. if you try and stay within say, Mechanica
Motion criteria and add up your DOF's you should be on the path to good
Mechanism connections. Check your redundancies in Mechanism. They
should be zero.
