Sheet metal flat pattern reference control

WF 5: I have two sheetmetal parts that seem identical in feature creation, but behave differently.I think at one time one part was created by Save As from the other. The obvious difference is a bunch of projected curves that are used to mark the parts.

The problem is the flat_pattern feature elects to flatten the part in a different direction than the previous unbend/bend back combination.

In one part this was resolved by selecting Edit Reference on the flat_pattern feature.

The other part doesn'tallow Edit Reference for the flat_pattern feature.

Anyone know what allows or denys Edit Reference on flat_pattern?

If it's any help to visualize it, its just an open topfour sided box with a flange aroundthe bottom. Similar surfaces were chosen for the unbend.
