Show Certain Features in Different Line Style

We have a number of parts which include engraved text. We have tried a variety of methods of modelling this engraved text, and have come down in favour of an extrusion using the text as the sketch.

Now, however, when we plot the drawing to PDF, the text becomes indistinct and blurred. This is because the relative size of the detail of the text is small compared to the overall dimensions of the part.

We have done some playing with line weights and discovered that reducing the line weight to 1 renders the text readable on a paper print of the drawing, even at A3 (16" x 11"). The problem is that all the geometry is then plotted at the thinner weight.

What we would like to do is to specify the line weight of certain specific features. So, for example, the text would be thin, whilst the remainder of the geometry would be medium weight and the outline of the part would be thick.

I have looked into pen tables, but it appears that geometry is geometry as far as pen tables are concerned. Is there a way to ascribe a line weight to certain geometry and a different line weight to the remainder?

Thanks,

John,

if it is possible, you can create engraved text as surface feature (instead of solid). Surface edges can be plotted by different pen.
