Surfacing

I'm getting into some surfacing, but I'm finding help not very helpful.
Almost all of the explanations of technical surfacing are in text, which
is like giving a reasonably intelligent person a 747 and telling him how
to fly it without getting in the cockpit or showing him anything. Words
just don't do the job. Are there any free tutorials on the internet
that actually SHOW how to create technical surfaces? I figured out the
variable section sweep, but the other surfaces have convoluted names
that don't mean anything (to me, anyway, at least not yet) and the
features are asking for things and I have no idea what they're asking
for. I understand blends because I've done them before, but I'll
sometimes end up with a tumor on my surface, and trying to figure out
grayed out sketches full of dimensions on top of each other is a
nightmare.

Ken, One more for the list. It is only a sample chapter from a Surfacing manual, but the exercise shows a very creative way to model the geometry of the old SGI logo. Some Old Timers might rememberSGIand its products (and its logo)from back in the day.

Ira,

That is pretty cool! That tutorial for the SGI Logo creation is a great way to take in some pretty basic surfacing techniques. Well done!
