importing point cloud data from Scanner

I am trying to import point cloud data from a FARO Focus scanner. The files are very large. When I get the export file from SCENE software in .igs, the CREO 2.0 will not import because of file size. I understand that most 3D packages have an interface to do this. How is it handled in Pro/CREO?

This discussion has come up a few times but not in the context of file-size (entity-count) limitations.

Can you filter the data in FARO to create a more manageable file-size?

Does the SCENE software have some filters to make the data less dense?

Most of these scanning packages generate Facet datasets. You cannot do too much with facets in Creo except maybe pick up vertices. The Iges files may be more flexible if it outputs real surface data.

If you can get an STEP format, you might be miles ahead. Even IGES files tend to be rather large.
