patterning a surface merge...

Greetings,

I know that I have reference patterned a surface merge before. What a time saver that was. However, I am not able to do it in my current model for some reason. Any hints as to what I might be doing wrong? The surfs are extrudes, patterned along a curve and they touch at a tangency. A single merge from the leader to the second extrude works (and that one to the third, etc...) but, the Reference pattern option is grayed out. I also tried creating a "connector" surf to merge to, but the ref pattern does not work with that either.

Any hints?

Oh - I am running WF2 for this job.

Thanks

I wonder if it has to do with the order of the quilts in the merge
feature.  The resultant quilt of a merge will retain the ID of the first
quilt on the list.  Try flipping the order and see if that helps.

I looked at that and found no help. The other thing I thought of was
that the curve pattern in WF2 sometimes makes the first copy coincident
with the original... Not sure why - it only happens sometimes. But
this isn't the issue I am seeing either.

I tried it a different way, with simpler geometry and no other parent
pattern (original referenced a pattern of points along the line) and I
got the same result.

In the past I have tricked it into working by merging the leader with a
separate surf not in the pattern and ref patterning that merge. Not
this time...

This is a recent install of WF2 and I am wondering if there is a config
setting? As I type it, though, it sounds really farfetched.

In this case, I am able to wrestle the model into what I need by
extruding and patterning the feature as a solid. Not as robust and
regen time takes a hit, but I still want to understand what is going
on... Wish I had more time to play.

Thanks for your help.
