restrict draft feature to add material only, not remove?

One of our designers is working on a casting model and is trying to create a drafted feature set similar to the attached picture. I haven't found a way to get the draft function to do this and end up having to create what he wants with a weird kind of hackish combination of cuts, features to add solid material back and then drafting. Would surfaces thensolidifyingbe a better way to get this done? Any suggestions for using the draft function to achieve this?

Thanks,

Erik

Hello Erik

Try entering a "0" value for the draft in the area that requires no draft, or a swept cut to create the draft along these surfaces.

1. Copy the upper cylindrical surface and front faceseparately before any draft is applied to the solid.

2. Draft the solid pocket without selecting the upper cylindrical surface. Use "details" to select the chain at the base of the pocket.

3. Draft the copied cylindrical surface. Create an intersected curve between that surface and the solid cylinder behind it.

4. Trim the surface and use edit solidify.

5. Voila!

6. Enjoy the rest of the day off.
