One of my writers returned from vacation and finds he can no longer get his DITA maps to display correctly. They come up in an unusable state as shown in the attached screenshot. Other dialogs, including the Preferences dialog, also display incorrectly. Have tried clearing the cache, rebooting, and everything else we can think of, but cannot resolve the issue. Any suggestions? We're using version 8.1.3.1.

Close editor and go to the aptcache roaming folder and rename the wcf file to old and reopen editor C:\Users\XXXXXX\AppData\Roaming\PTC\Arbortext\Editor. See if that works as the wcf is a configuration file.
