Are you using an SGML or an XML basd DTD? SGML would require the entity,
but XML should allow you to type it in or at the very least cut and past
off the Character Map tool. For XML ths would also require that the
encoding type in the XML declaration to be correct - one that allowed the
direct entry of the character and not an entity reference.
