Local PostScript Print Driver for PE running on Windows Server 2008?

I am trying to install an instance of Arbortext 5.3M040 PE on a new
server (64-bit, Win2008 Server EE).



The Adobe Universal Print Driver that ships with distiller server isn't
compatible with Win 2008 (at least per the Adobe forums).



Any ideas on a good generic postscript driver for LPT1 port to use with
PE? Since I can't get distiller server to install the generic distiller
driver (what the PE documentation says is used internally for testing),
I'll need to come up with something else.

Years ago, back in the 1990s when we were using Epic Editor 4.3.1, we had to use Postscript printers with Epic Print Composer. I don't remember if Arbortext told us or we got the information somewhere else, but it turned out that Apple printer drivers at the time had PostScript drivers that were *very* good at making PDF. Other brands of printer drivers seemed to have some sort of "one-off" or otherwise bastardized type of PostScript driver.
I don't know about modern Apple printer drivers, but it might be worth looking into.

Remember, too, per Ed's suggestion, that a print driver probably comes with
physical limitations associated with the printer it is intended to drive. So
if it only prints 8.5"x11" you won't be getting any 14" or 17" pages without
clipping or reducing the print image.

Yes this thread reminds me, many years ago I used to use the
bundled-with-Windows Apple LaserWriter Color drivers to create PostScript
and then distill it. That used to work pretty good.

I also seem to remember that the 1990s-vintage HP laser printers used to work pretty good as a PS drivers for distilling to PDF, too.
I am not as certain of that as I am about the Apple drivers.
I remember we had some Xerox printers that were supposedly PostScript but whose drivers either would not make PDF at all or made really horribly-formatted PDF.
