ANSI / ASME

Apologize in advance for asking such a stupid question but I read the
following link and I'm a bit confused:

2 REPLIES 2

That article is somewhat misleading. ASME y14.100 has a section of
statements that say stuff like..."drawing format requirements per
ASMEY14.1" It has about 50 of such statements that basically point at
the other ASME standards relating to drafting. So now you can put one
statement on your drawing that says "Drawing Interpretation per
ASMEY14.100." and you will encompass all of the different standards.
(That is with the exception of y14.5 which has to be called out in a
separate statement that includes the revision year. But that's another
discussion.)

Long story short: Y14.100 does not replace the other standards it just
points to 'em.

Thanks all. I'm now on the path to enlightenment...

You are confusing the organizations & the standards. None of these are
ANSI standards. Y14.5M is an ASME standard, it governs dimensioning and
tolerancing. Y14.100 governs detail items in drawings, e.g., thread
representation, letters allowed for detail views, etc

No, it means that 14.5 is referenced in 14.100.

ASME Y14.5M-1994 (R2004) / Dimensioning and Tolerancing and ASME
Y14.100-2004 / Engineering Drawing Practices are still two different
animals.
ASME overtook many ANSI and DOD/MIL standards ...

I for one, fell much better now....in fact...harmonious.
