We're considering performing some analysis in the future in-house of some
fiberglass tanks. These tanks tend to be fiberglass wound, they are wound
in 1 direction at a specified angle and then back at the opposite angle,
producing a fairly strong structure. They also contain either a steel
bottom or a fiberglass lay-up bottom.
We want to determine the wall thickness and tank property limitations, tank
sizes and shapes for burial in various media. We have mechanica in-house,
and I'm sure we could make up some isotropic properties to give us ballpark
results. What we'd really prefer, and would hold more weight, is a more
precise analysis using tools intended for our application (namely, glass
wound vessels). Do any of you have recommendations on other software
available to perform such analysis.
