Ignoring layers upon importing 2D (DXF, DWG, IGES)?

I would like to know if there is a way to ignore layers when importing or opening details from an outside source?

We have imported DXFs, DWGs, and IGES files and it appears that the layers that the outside sources have applied will get applied in some cases.

The problem is that a lot of the times there will be 1 layer that will contain ALL of the 2D geometry (dims, lines, everything). That layer becomes very difficult to work with. Even if we want to delete it - Pro ends up getting hosed-up and will just die, or we end up having to KILL it.

Any advise on how to deal with this will be appreciated.

Thank You & Best Regards,

Dan
