Symbol variable text

Hello,

I'm still on 2001.

I'm trying to define a new symbol and it's been a long time since I've done this.  I'd like to use the &todays_date system parameter in the symbol and have it update to the current date when the symbol is placed.  How do I do that?  The help files are useless in this.
