use the brackets.. as he says: {1:this word is }{2:underlined}
then you can right click on just that word, change the text style and
select underline

If my memory is correct you could break up the note with curly brackets...
{1:How do I }{2:underline}{3: just this word}
...and then format its section individually.

How do I create a multi line text note with only certain words or lines
underlined?
Like this:
How do I underline just this word
in this single 2 line text note?
I remember having some type of write up about doing this & other types of
special text, but I can't find it.
I appreciate any help.
