The technique of focusing attention one place while something important is happening another is called misdirection. In stage magic it is considered a good thing. In interface design it is considered a bad thing.
A few less magicians and a few more UI developers at PTC would be nice. Maybe it's all better in WF4.
On a similar note - hovering the pointer over a section name in the view manager window -long enough- will show the name of the related datum feature as a tool tip. In this case the misdirection is temporal rather than spatial, but it comes to the same result.
