speaking of spaceballs...

users...

I'm currently using an old Spacetec Inc. Spaceball 3003FLX that was new
when I purchased it. Ever since day one, occasionally, the driver (yes,
I have the latest one: 3.6.4 from 3DxConnexion and we are on XP Pro,
still using Pro/E2001, but at some point will be going to Wildfire...)
seems to be looking for the unit on COM2 when it's plugged into COM1, or
vice-a-versa. Typically, I've just physically swapped the location of
the connector and all was well. On my most recent workstation that only
has one serial port, it seems not to have this problem... at least so
far. I've only had this new system for a few days. This is not that
big of deal, as I said, the problem is "intermittent" and I certainly do
not want to give up on my spaceball, EVER! So, my first question is:
anyone else seeing this behavior, and have you possibly resolved it?

Furthermore, I'm thinking that maybe it's time to buy a NEW spaceball.
My second question is what are you all using out there? Are they all
basically the same? I see the more recent models all seem to come with
"lots-o-buttons". Are these all that useful in Pro/E? Is my old 3003
with essentially no buttons not any worse than these new ones?

BTW: I tried to setup a "trail offer"/evaluation of the new 3DxConnexion
SpacePilot, but was told that the driver for Pro/E wasn't "fixed" yet,
and that I wouldn't much like it till that happened. Anyone using one
of these? Comments?

thanks in advance... summary will be posted in a day or so....
