Webcast Q&A
Question from Akash: How do we export all the combination states to a 3d PDF? I am able to export only one combination state at a time. Is there a solution for this?
Answer: OOTB, we cannot export a formatted 3D PDF. Anark and/or Theorem have a solution for this. https://www.theorem.com/publish/creo-to-3dpdf.
Webcast Q&A
Question from Alexander: How does Creo handle family tables (BOM data) regarding MDB?
Answer: The models are typical 3D models (part or assemblies).
Question from Alexander: Thanks for the explanation about the "family data" topic. However, can I make the family table somehow visible, resp., can it be added to a combined view so that it is readable for anyone?
Answer: This can be done thru a 3rd party tool.
Question from Alexander: Why doesn't Creo properly scale my annotations when I switch the display resolution? Some of my GTols, which I have added to one of my combined views (on a 4K screen) have just disappeared from the view and are not visible anymore (on a FHD screen) although they still exist in the model tree.
Answer: Please log a Tech Support case as we have never seen this issue of items disappearing.
Question from Alexander: Is it possible to import the "MDB" start part parameters into an existing legacy PRT/ASM?
Answer: Importing MDB start part info can be done through a toolkit app (CadActive or Smart Assembly).

Question from Anonymous: How does inspection by 3D scanner work? What information does quality assurance group use to create scanning inspection program? Can you explain?
Answer: This is the QIF format and Capvidia has a tool to do that.

Question from Charles: Can we add a watermark for rev on all views when printed so printed views have a rev record?
Answer: Windchill does support watermarks.
Webcast Q&A
Question from Christopher: Has PTC tried importing their AP242 step files into any other pieces of software successfully? If so, which one?
Answer: You can import a Creo STEP AP242 file into Creo but it does not contain combination states. Is that what you're referring to?
Question from Christopher: I am referring to the Step file being imported into other inspection packages that run the CMMs (GOM, Zeiss, Kalypso, etc.)
Answer: If those tools fully support STEP 242, then it should work.
Question from Christopher: My personal experience is that PMI in the AP242 gets dropped in translation. Fr instance, Creo splits cylinders into 2 surfaces. Other software inspection packages don't understand that 2 clam shells are a hole and the whole philosophy of "machine readable" breaks down because it doesn't import into the inspection correctly. Is there something I am missing specifically regarding the holes being split into 2 surfaces on export? Is there a way to prevent that?
Answer: That example sounds like it would be an issue.
Question from Christopher: Last time I made a MDB, you couldn't click and drag multiple annotations at once. For instance, if you had 6 stacked dimensions and you needed to add a new one, you had to move all 6 dimensions out of the way first to make room for the new one. Is that still the case?
Answer: That is correct and would make a great enhancement request.

Question from Craig: As this process evolves, will PTC continue to support traditional drafting practices?
Answer: Yes, 2D will not go away in our lifetime.
Webcast Q&A
Question from Morgana: When I do the check-in to Windchill, will Windchill generate the PDF automatically?
Answer: It can if you set it up to do so.
Webcast Q&A
Question from Rajesh: In this method (MDB/MBE), how do we record changes? For example, 1 version is initial release and 2 is with changed of length, which recorded on drawing revision block.
Answer: This is done with Windchill Change Control.
Webcast Q&A
Question from Robert: Can we get a template we can modify to use as a 'start part' for MDB?
Answer: Yes. In the Precision LMS class, there are examples of this. https://sso.ptcu.com/auth/realms/ptcusys/login-actions/authenticate?client_id=plm-prod&tab_id=mwV_01_fNC0
Webcast Q&A
Question from Vijeth: Can annotated model be exported into any other formats? How can we export this 3D annotation model to downstream team or to external suppliers?
Answer: Using Creo View Express (free downloadable viewer), your suppliers can view your 3D annotated models.
Question from Vijeth: What is the recipe file to be edited for getting all combined states?
Answer: You'll find the answer here.
Webcast Q&A
Question from Samad: How do you keep a revision history with MDB?
Answer: With Windchill Change Management.
Is the PowerPoint available? I’d also be interested in getting a copy of the video if possible.
