One main problem with electrical design when using PTC Creo Schematics is that most processes require detailed knowledge of the design at a stage where it may not be known. Electrical design is an iterative process which starts from a basic Schematic dropping in the fundamental components of a design, such as a switch or solenoid, before evolving into a detailed Wiring Diagram which defines all components and wires which will be used in a new product. This design process uses PTC Creo Schematics to improve efficiency when moving from the early stages of electrical design through detailed design whilst resolving a number of issues which can occur during the product development process. The most critical element of this process is the flexibility that is afforded to the user during the product development process, enabling them to place the fundamental electrical components of their design, such as a switch or a solenoid, and then group them together later to form a physical component once they enter detailed design and have identified the parts that will be used in their product, whilst also enabling XML compliance so that the design can be used to drive PTC Creo Cabling. The presenters will share, through description and demonstration, what they learned during the development of the process with the requirement of the engineer to have flexibility, especially during the early concept stages of product development. During the demonstration phase the use of PTC Creo Schematics to create a basic circuit diagram made up on fundamental components and connections will be shown, followed by the process of grouping together components to make a connector and grouping the connections to form a cable which can be used to generate XML to drive PTC Creo Cabling. Finally the demonstration will show how the flexibility of the process enables changes to be made quickly and easily, even once the detailed design phase has started and the fundamental components have been grouped.
