Pro Gurus,
Background (most from Joel Nelson, Feb 2007)
I am trying to setup material files that can be read into drawing
format.
With WF3 this can be done IN TWO WAYS:
1. If I require a parameter in my model I can follow TAN 130467 (copied
below for reference)
2. I can just add PTC_MATERIAL_NAME parameter to my format
Either way works fine
However, the problem I am coming across is that material file names can
not have spaces in them, so the file name can not look like:
ALUM ALLOY 5052-H32 PRT ASTM B209
It must look like this:
ALUM_ALLOY_5052-H32_PER_ASTM_B209
And using PTC_MATERIAL NAME will show the second example.
The way to solve this problem is to modify each material file which
provides a PTC parameter "ptc_material_description". Use that field for
your desired descriptive text. The parameter "ptc_material_description"
is reserved and belongs to the material file. In a part model, if only
one material is assigned to that part, create a "material_desc"
parameter and then this relation in the
part.....material_desc=material_param("PTC_MATERIAL_DESCRIPTION") then
in the drawing title block use &material_desc to report the material
description of the model on the drawing.
Question
Now if I follow idea 1 above (Tan 130467), then it causes all of our
users to manually go into the Relation editor and after many mouse
button clicks to pull the "PTC_MATERIAL_DESCRIPTION" parameter into a
relation for each part file. They have to do this manually each time.
I can set up a mapkey so it is a little easier to do, but that can be a
little unstable depending upon where your cursor is prior to running the
mapkey in the Relation editor. Does anyone have a better/different way
to automatically define the material, density, and put into the drawing
format automatically?
TAN 130467
Description
In the new Edit> Setup>Material interface of Wildfire 3.0, User Defined
material parameters are allowed.
However these material parameters cannot be used in relations using the
old syntax <part_param>=MATERIAL_PARAM("<mat_param>", "<mat_name>") as
defined in (
the word ## must be replaced by the actual material ID number. To
retrieve it, the user must select #Insert, #From List #Material in the
Relations dialog box. Then the desired parameter can be selected
visually and then the desired relation line can be added manually.
