Track changes in a document

We have huge documents edited by 2-3 people and we would like to track and review the changes corresponding to lets say one feature or correction.

Similarly to an SVN commit where you can see the revision, changed files and the diffs.

Is there a way to achieve that? Seeing what somebody did under one commit/any atomic operation and to see what he changed (text, traces, attributes)?

What currently we have (in order to track our user activities) is as a set of -own defiend work- rules, exporter templates and a script for our diff tool:

- only one user is allowed to work on a document at the same time

- the user has to export the document at the end of his work

- has to upload it to SVN in order to have a version control and diff of the document!!!

- create the review of the changes.

So all in all we found a workaround for a really expensive tool that is designed for documentation and its version controlling, currently in our context we are having huge overheads because we have to version control our documents using a 3rd party version control and some self developed scripting for the diff.

Maybe we are just missusing the PTC but haven't been able to do this with the set of available methods given by this program.

It sounds like you're talking about an Integrity Manager document.

• As of Integrity 10.8, you can do diffs on documents (or im diffsegments on the command line).
• You could use a "change order" type to enumerate what kind of work is required, and from there, what documents or items are permitted to be edited by that change order, then look at changes based on the change order level (similar to a change package on the Source Integrity side).
• You can change workflows to include a review phase (even down to the node level, if you're interested in being that detailed)
• It's now possible to check out/check in Integrity item types (as exclusive locks), which gives you further granular control.

Does that help at all?

Without knowing the details of your organization's use of Integrity, I can't really suggest anything more specific.  If you really feel like you're not getting your best value out of Integrity Lifecycle Manager, you should discuss training or a usage review with your Account Manager.  It's likely that you're not aware of ways to do certain things with Integrity, or that minor customizations might substantially improve the workflow aspects of Integrity in your environment.

Thank you for your answer, we are using 10.6 so far it seemed impossible to review our documents (html report is not useful, history of a document can only be seen elemenwise, etc).

Do you have a presentation/video that shows the usage of this manager, so that we can see, evaluate and consider maybe to migrate to 10.8?
