Our company has recently moved to Windchill 10.0 and the toolbar in my workspace has a green plus sign to add to workspace. How does this work? Our version states that you have to have an item chosen before adding to workplace. Why do I have to search for the component and then have to add it? This is a backward step from the previous version.
There is no browsing for files per say...you search first, view the results, then select what to "add to workspace".
The reason the add button is there is so that you don't Add everything you look at to a workspace, which is good if you are looking at the status or where used or many other functions in WC that don't need anything added to a workspace.
What backward step? When was it different? How was it different? What version did you use? Inquiring minds would like to know.
Our previous version (9.?) had a small desk with a "+" symbol on it, icon to pick and you could fill in the component number there and it would be added to workspace without having to do a search.
I just tried it in 9.x , found a desk. It says I have to select something before using Add. Maybe you had some customization or I'm looking at a different desk. Is it in-Pro/E browser or external web-browser that you were using?
When I need to work on something I find it much faster to open it in Pro/E. I select Open, type the name, and then go.
Windchill will hunt it down wherever it is, with correct permissions and access, add it to the workspace, and then Pro/E opens it from there. I have to type the entire name because Pro/E won't open a bunch of files at the same time, but it skips having to go to Commonspace, find it, add to a Workspace, then open with Pro/E.
It was an internal browser in Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 4. I do not have access to the previous version before Windchill 10.0 was installed so can't find what was actually there. I will check with our IT CAD MAN and see if he can find it.
Thanks for the advice,
