Okay, we're currently running 9.0 M040, using SolidWorks 2008 ( or SW2008 for those searching). We learned long ago that if you have SolidWorks open, even with no files open, do not try to switch workspaces in the Workgroup Manager. 99 times out of 100 this results in a crash of the WGM, but SolidWorks is left open.
Consulting with PTC, their response was "upgrade to 9.1 M020".
Now I have 9.1 M020 on a test server, and have the corresponding WGM and SW2009 installed on a test workstation.
Can I change the active workspace now, with SW open but no files open? A big, fat NO. Now its even worse than before. The WGM stays open, but SW crashes. Sometimes I can restart SW (sometimes I can't) but when I do successfully restart SW, it loses its connected with the WGM (or the WGM loses its connection with SW, whichever way it works). So now I have to restart both.
Anyone else able to change active workspaces on the fly with SW open?
Thanks!
Thanks CJ. (also received your e-mail message)
This worked, though I'm at a loss to explain why. You would think that it would work as long as you don't shut down and restart again, but it worked for several days w/o issue, through multiple cycles.
If its this easy to do manually, I wonder how long it will take for a patch for existing installations?
