Association Method

Hi Everyone,

We know when we associate we set the type manually - Owner, Contributing Image, Image & Content. But I have a doubt about how we can find which one is the Owner because I checked the info page in both WT & CAD data is shown it's the Owner. I don't know if it's the correct way to find it. Please find the below attachments.

Hello @Amirtharaj_K

That is correct. The link is type IMAGE so you will see it on both sides. WT and EPM.

Check Help what type of associations (type links) exists Build Rule Associations

The point of the type links are that each link propagate different information to the WTPart from CAD.

Owner is used for models that represents the product item. From that WTPart the item will be manufactured or purchased.

everything is propagated. Parameters, Structure, Representations

The image link is used for models that are just another view of model, that is used in assembly for example a Spring.

You can have owner link to WTP from model that represents a view of the spring that is in standard position. With image link you can have the spring in different  position that is used in a assembly. There are many others examples.

Another point is that Drawing is linked ootb as a calculated. But in some configuration the drawing can be content where it is absolutely clear it is drawing. for some specific situation.

Hello @Amirtharaj_K

Your way is correct one.

The link is between CAD Model and WTPart. The association type is on the Link so you can see the type owner from both sides.

From WTPart the link is owner, from CAD Model the link is still owner or what ever content/image atc.

Thanks for the replay Mr. Helesic,

Then how we can tell if it's CAD or Part centric approach, can you elaborate more on this?

Thanks & Regards,

Amir

Hi @Amirtharaj_K

It depends on your work and needs.

generally My point of view is that

CAD Centric is if CAD is created first and all is done in the CAD. Then the WTPart is generated and used for BOM integration.

WTPart Centric is if you start with WTPart structure and your goal is to create structure from WTPart and then create Models (Windchill allows you to generate CAD models and structure from WTP)

Good Morning Mr. Helesic,

If I edit the association into the image, both WT & EPM are also shown in the image. Please give me some examples from Association Type. Kindly share any DOC or Video to understand better on this.

Thanks,

Amir

Thank you for giving me more specifics.
