Attribute designation after Checkin

While Check-in of Pro/E CAD data in WIndchill 10, Attribute designation was not done (Pro/E> tools > Paramaters > Designation checkbox).

Is there any mechanism (database level) that will designate the paramaters in the checked-in data and make them available in Windchill ?

Or Is checkout -> Designate -> checkin the only option ? Products : Windchill 10 + Pro/E Wildfire 4 Let me know your valuable thoughts.
