I see only 2 possible paradigms for Cloud PDM/PLM to be successfull with remote host. It is either CAD thin clients or new CAD web based architectured tools. Needless to say, large CAD designs or extremely productive CAD companies willineffieciently spendmillions ofdollars incurrent old technologytrying to push an elephant with GIGs of data through aWAN or even LAN.
The latter solution has just in itsinfancy stagesin rearchitecting CAD web-based solutions but it pushes the overhead of local GPUs back to the enterprise server application. With automated tuning host sites, that might be possible.
With existing IT infrastructure, thin clients has its advantages to either have a remote hosting siteor local host site. Everyone is complaining about replicated servers and how poor they are as a solution.
Let see what we can do next to make this really work.
