Creation of EBOM from CAD assembly.

How can we automatically create a large EBOM from a large MCAD assembly . Please note the MCAD assembly is created in the Creo.

By default you need to open your CAD assembly from within the CAD application connected to Windchill and then do a save and check-in with the option of auto-associating parts.

This is the Out-of-the-box behavior, but your Windchill environment may be configured differently.

Doing it through the CAD application is mandatory for the following reasons:

  • Only the CAD application can analyze the links between the CAD models and pass it to Windchill to create the BOM
  • Opening the CAD assembly in the CAD application ensures that your CAD assembly integrity is OK (missing references missing files etc...) causing CAD regeneration issues. This is critical to get proper display of all the components using Windchill and Creo View, Windchill uses Creo (or NX or CATIA or SolidWorks) to generate viewable for each component and sub-assemblies if the CAD assembly has this defects Windchill can't generate the viewables.
