Different target states for resulting items in the same ECN

Hi All,

Currently we can only select one target state for all the resulting
items in the ECN. However users need to set different target states for
different resulting items in the same ECN. Let me know if there is any
preference or configuration that can do this. Or any suggestions/ideas for
customization will help.

Have you tried using the "Change" transition in different lifecycle
templates for whatever state(s) the objects are in prior to ECN completion
to make each lifecycle change to a different state on ECN completion?

We use that approach to make parts go to a different state than drawings,
for example.

The user requirement is that different parts needs to go to
different states in the same ECN. However ECN only allows one target state
to select.

One of the viable ways is

1. add a soft attribute to implementation plan(Change Activity),

2. add different states as discrete set constraint,

3. group TO-BE identical state parts to different implementation plans

4. select implementation plan soft attribute state

5. Within Implementation workflow set the parts state in-line with
implementation plan soft attribute.

That is definitely a viable solution. I will propose that to users

If you need different target states for resulting and affected, I suggest the easier method which is closer to OOTB, is to generate multiple change activities and have the change activities functional peer review happen in the change review workflow. Thus the change notice will only have the higher level of approval. Each change activity will have its separate target state for both affected and resulting.

If you are releasing different objects to different states (eg Part to
Released, MyPart to Finished, Doc to Completed) that is supported OOTB
using Transition rules.



If you want to release the same object to multiple states (eg Part to
ProtoDone and Done) that is not yet supported, but can be done via
customization or workflow configuration. This is an area we are looking
at for future releases.
