Does Thingworx install add functionality to the Windchill API capabilities?

I seem to remember that installing Thingworx also installed additional API functionality but I can't find any information on this on the PTC site, so I'm asking the community.

We are running Windchill 13 and have external tools accessing Windchill via the odata API. We are wondering if installing Thingworx just for the sake of getting additional/better API capability could be worth the effort and what would be the benefit (for example more complex calls or better performance?). Or was this additional API a thing from previous versions and is currently everything already in the Windchill API? Any links to documentation would be appreviated.
